Plan for a happy, stress-free Christmas
Christmas is a time to give thanks for all that we have and enjoy a little quality time with loved ones. But all too often it’s a stressful time trying to buy mountains of gifts, cook up a storm and resolve family disagreements. But with a little planning you can take some of the heat out of Christmas and make it the peaceful, joyous time it’s meant to be.
Be prepared for what’s coming
Christmas comes around every year at the same time, yet we’re always shocked when it turns up on the calendar. Even though it’s almost on us now, there’s still time do a little pre-planning to make your life easier at this busy time of year. Here’s a few tips to help you remain relaxed on the big day.
Enjoy gift shopping
-
Write a gift shopping list and set a budget for each gift
-
Do your shopping early – don’t wait to pull an ‘all nighter’ on Christmas eve
-
Avoid the crowds when possible by shopping online
Less is more with decorations
-
Pick a simple theme and stick to it – say two colours like red and green
-
Add a personal touch with a few hand-made decorations
-
Get the kids involved in making and putting up decorations – they’ll love seeing their decorations on your tree
Manage the Christmas meal
-
Plan the menu and share the hosting – allocate a dish to each person so there’s less pressure on the hosts and everyone gets to enjoy the day
-
Remember to help clean up afterwards
-
Share some laughter – tell funny stories about yourself or other family members at the table
Christmas is the perfect time to reflect on all the good things we have in our lives. It’s also a time for giving. So if you can, why not extend the spirit of Christmas to those less fortunate with a gift or charitable donation.
With a little fore-thought and planning, there’s every chance you can make your Christmas an enjoyable time. This year, as always, we wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy Christmas.
