Defined benefit contributions via Employer Online
Employer Online allows the following employers to process defined benefit contributions, change employee details, and access general reports:
- Participating Victorian Government employers, or
- Employers with active ESSSuper defined benefit scheme members.
Go to the Employer Online web page to log in or find out more about how to use the system.
Accumulation contributions via SuperStream
Your payroll system must be SuperStream compliant to make super contributions (e.g. additional member contributions or Superannuation Guarantee) for the accumulation contributions of employees that are members of the ESSSuper Accumulation Plan.
Using SuperStream is a legislative requirement when paying into an accumulation account. All employers must send both their payment and employee information electronically, in the standard SuperStream format. You can make all your accumulation contributions in a single transaction, even if your payments are going to multiple super funds, through:
- The Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (refer below for eligibility information)
- A commercial clearing house
- Your payroll software, or
- A compliant accountant or bookkeeper.
For more information, search "SuperStream" or "Small Business Superannuation Clearing House" on the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website at ato.gov.au
The Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) is a free, SuperStream compliant service provided by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Employers with less than 20 employees or an annual aggregated turnover of less than $10 million can use the SBSCH to make Superannuation Guarantee contributions. The SBSCH will then distribute the payments to each employee's super fund.
Before making a contribution:
- Please ensure that employee(s) have an ESSSuper Accumulation Plan account before contributing on their behalf. Contributions for employees who are ineligible to join the fund will be returned to you.
- The Unique Superannuation Identifier (USI) of ESSSuper is ESS0003AU
- The Australian Business Number (ABN) for payments to ESSSuper is 85 894 637 037.

ESSSuper can receive these contributions through a clearing house such as the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House, but other methods are acceptable. See below for more details.
