Learn more about your super and your options

ESSSuper - 22 Jun 2023

Education events

When you think about how much time we spend planning for a new job, a holiday, or a wedding, it's amazing how little time most of us take to think about our life in retirement.

That's why we regularly run short education events in person and online to give you the information you need to understand your ESSSuper account and some of the options available.

Our events are run by our Member Education Consultants who are experts on the intricacies of your fund and can give you general advice. This means that the events can help you to identify and narrow down your options. For many members, this is often one of the first steps in gaining a greater understanding of their super and can provide enough information to help you feel comfortable in making decisions about your super.

Our events are specifically aimed to make sure the topics covered are relevant to your age and account type:

  • Planning Your Retirement events are designed for members who are considering retirement within the next few years and covers topics such as the basics of super, how to enjoy a regular income after you retire, making your super last longer, insurance and benefits, contribution splitting, and salary sacrifice.
  • If you're already retired, our Making the Most of Your Retirement events are intended for you, and cover different types of retirement fund options, Centrelink, some of the latest legislative changes, and much more.
  • Members who are still working and some years away from retirement will benefit from understanding their beneficiary nomination options, insurance and benefits, concessional and non-concessional contribution caps, and strategies for boosting your balance, such as contributions and consolidation by looking at Your Super in Detail.
  • Our Lunch and Learn sessions are short, focussed sessions which cover specific topics such as understanding your insurance and benefits, accessing your super, tax, Centrelink entitlements, "Deferred" members, Income Streams, investment options, and understanding your Accumulation Plan.

You can choose between face-to-face seminars or webinars online. Our Member Education Consultants are available in our offices and are back on the road, with events planned in Geelong, Shepparton, Ballarat, and Traralgon over the next six months. Some of these education events are also customised to members with an ESSS Defined Benefit Fund, State Super, or Accumulation Plan account.

To find out more about how we can help make 'super complicated' into 'super simple', please visit our Education events web page.

Alternatively, you can talk one-on-one with a Member Education Consultant instead of attending a group event. We're also back making workplace visits so may be able to run a seminar just for you and your colleagues.
